Carol-Ann completed her Honours in Psychology in 1976 at the University of Natal, where she became acutely aware of the systemic exclusion and discrimination of people on racial grounds during Apartheid, as well as entrenched patriarchal attitudes toward women and children. She subsequently worked for a range of NGOs and trauma centres across South Africa, addressing unfair labour, gender, and racial practices. In 1999, she completed her MA in Counselling Psychology at the University of Johannesburg. Between 2000 and 2003, she trained in Imago Relationship Therapy and completed courses in multiple couples therapy modalities. She completed her PhD in Relational Dynamics and Development at North-West University in 2025. Her research deepened her understanding of effective relational dynamics between individuals and within groups. She expanded relationship therapy to include intergenerational relationships, as well as workplace partnerships, and developed a therapeutic process specifically for parent–teen relationships. She offers ethically sensitive clinical supervision in individual, couples and intergenerational relationships informed by an integration of feminist philosophy, psychodynamic psychotherapy (including Imago Relationship Therapy, Emotionally-focused Therapy and Transactional analysis) through a systemic/contextual lens.
