I qualified as a psychiatric nurse in 1988 and worked in an adolescent unit before being trained as a clinical psychologist at Oxford. I have specialised working with sexual and developmental trauma using attachment, feminist psychotherapy models and DBT. I have also worked in Maori communities experiencing abuse and violence. I was psychology lead for a female medium secure service for most of my career and specialised in maternal filicide. I left the NHS in 2016 and worked as an expert witness for family and criminal courts, I also offered national training and provided supervision to NHS services. In the last two years I have established a private therapy service. I mostly work with women and particularly those going through mid-life and the menopause. Speciall intersest in co-dependency in relationships. I have completed additional training (ongoing) on psychosexual therapy and work with both males and females with sexual and intimacy problems. I like to offer a warm and supportive space for supervision and work with the Shoet and Hawkins model of reflective process which rests on the tenet that working in deep relational ways with disturbed clients will disturb the mind and the practice of the therapist. The nature of that disturbance can be understood as transference from the client and supervision as a means to make sense of both the client's unconsious communication and the therapist's often unconsious attempts to help. Happy to have a short no-fee chat.
